Mani Monday

Hey there all you beautiful people. For this weeks Mani Monday I have chosen to use a couple polishes from the OPI Neon Revolution collection.

CYMERA_20140324_194040

Now that the weather is getting nicer I am starting to see many beautiful colours coming out. I really love pastels for spring but I also love bright colours that really pop. My daughter recieved the Neon Collection for Christmas and has yet to use it, so I thought I would put it to good use (shhh, don’t tell her I used them).

CYMERA_20140324_190648

For this mani I used Blue It Out Of Proportion and Pink Outside The Box. I also added a few rhinestones for a little bling.

CYMERA_20140324_185934

For this look I used Pink Outside The Box again and polished my accent finger with a white polish.I then added a gold stud. Metallic studs are really popular for nail designs at the moment. You can get them at many craft stores and dollar stores. To apply, all you do is stick them on top of your top coat.

Well there you have it. Two mani’s that are really easy to do but yet they look like they were done at the nail salon. I hope you enjoyed this edition of Amy Gives It Ago – Mani Monday. I look forward to next week!

Day/Evening Looks and Product Reviews

My first makeup blog!

Amy Gives It A Go

CYMERA_20140322_173838

I am especially excited about this blog because for the first time I will be sharing some of my work as a makeup artist (in training) and I will be reviewing the products that I used. Two firsts for me in one blog. So let’s get right to it.

I was originally supposed to find a model with a monolid because that was the given assignment in class, but at the last minute my model cancelled. Luckily I found another model from my school. The gorgeous Praneeta! This Selena Gomez look alike was a blast to work with and I definitely look forward to working with her again.

I was originally supposed to find a model with a monolid because that was the given assignment in class, but at the last minute my model cancelled. Luckily I found another model from my school. The gorgeous Praneeta! This Selena Gomez look alike was a blast to work with and I definitely look forward to working with her again.

CYMERA_20140322_175025

My first makeup application was a day look. Given the fact that my model has Angelina Jolie lips, I wanted them to be the main focus. I used light shadows from my Smashbox Full Exposure Pallette on the eyes and gave her winged tips with my Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner. I used Makeup Forever for her foundation and blush, which I applied very lightly. For her lips I applied a deep magenta colour and I added a bright pink colour on the inside of her lips for an ombre appearance. I then applied a clear gloss. Being that she is 19 she can definitely pull off this edgy lip.

CYMERA_20140322_180653

For the evening look I added a bit more foundation for a more opaque look. I gave her a smouldering smokey eye using our MAC Pallette. Before I applied the shadow I did under painting with my Maybelline Master Smokey Eye Studio pencil in Black Smoke. I did this so the shadow would look more intense on the eyelid. For her lips we kept them the same. I would normally do a nude lip with a smokey eye so that the main focus is the eyes but Praneeta really loved her lips so we left them as is. She definitely pulls this bold look off effortlessly.

These are my two looks which I am very proud of, especially since it was my first time doing a smokey eye on someone other than myself. I want to send a special thank you to my model. Thanks girl!

Now for my product reviews. Anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with Channing Tatum. I will be rating these products on a scale from 1 Channing Tatum to 5 Channing Tatums (hmmm, wouldnt that be nice.)

MAYBELLINE MASTER SMOKEY by EYE STUDIO

If you love smokey eyes you will love this product. This product is perfect for under painting. It comes with a smudging sponge on the end of the pencil which makes smudging and blending a sinch. It gives you a smouldering and sexy eye by itself but looks even better with shadow. The price was under $10 so this is the perfect product to use if you’re just learning how to do a smokey eye. It is perfect for monolids. I give this product 4 Channing Tatums.

MAYBELLINE EYE STUDIO GEL LINER (above)

This is for sure my new favorite liner. This product is waterproof which is going to come in handy when April Showers come our way. The gel liner glides on smoothly and it doesn’t smudge but if you make a mistake you have a few seconds to fix it before it’s on there for good. This liner comes with a small application brush which I totally love. I actually prefer it over my professional liner brush. Another amazing fact, it is completely affordable! I would definitely buy this product again. I give this product 4.5 Channing Tatums

SMASHBOX FULL EXPOSURE PALLETTE

I really like this pallette. It has both warm and cool colours in matte and shimmer which are great for a smokey eye. I am a big fan of neutrals, so this pallette is perfect for me. They have a good amount of pigment to them and are also buildable, but like most shadows an eyeshadow primer is necessary if you want the most from this product. The shimmery eyeshadow are my favorite out of this pallette because it allows you to really pack it on with just a bit of product. I don’t feel they work as well as MAC shadows but they come pretty close. I would recommend this pallette. I give this product 3.5 Channing Tatums.

BEAUTY GURU BRUSHES

I was super excited to get these brushes when I first enrolled in my makeup course. It is true when they say that good brushes play a huge roll in the outcome of your makeup application. These brushes allow a better control of product than my other drugstore brushes that I have used in the past. The best part is that they do not shed hairs when you are using them. There is nothing worse than finishing a makeup application and then having to remove all the hairs stuck to your face. My favourite brush is the C433 Pro Blending Brush. It is made of goat hair and it is perfect for crease work and blending. I would recommend these brushes to other makeup artists. I give this product 4.5 Channing Tatums.

Well that is it for reviews. I hope they have been helpful and you should give them a try and let me know if you agree. I will be giving it a go with more reviews and makeup blogs and tutorials so stay tuned and please follow me if you haven’t already.

Dark Chocolate Facial Mask

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. This girl must have got into a fight with some brownie batter or something, but no, I intentionally did this to myself. Believe me I know I look completely crazy, but its so worth it!

CYMERA_20140320_183933

I love facial masks! Whether it is store bought or homemade, I love trying new ways to keep my skin hydrated and healthy especially with the weather changing, our skin can act up a bit more than usual. The mask that I have featured today is one of my new favourite D.I.Y masks that I like to use to give my skin a healthy glow. It is so easy to prepare and almost everyone has the ingredients right in their kitchen. I do have to warn you that this is a mask that you will want to put on when you are alone time because, well look at me, I look a little crazy. I actually scared my two year old the first time I tried it!

If you read my previous blog on How Sugar Affects the Skin, you will know that dark chocolate has many benefits. If you have not read it you can click on the link at the bottom of the page. Not only is it a healthier snack choice over other sweets, but it has antioxidants in it as well. Dark chocolate is also beneficial when applied topically… and no, it doesn’t cause breakouts.

Listed below are just a few of its benefits for the skin:

  • Gives you a beautiful facial glow.
  • Helps prevent wrinkles due to the antioxidants in dark chocolate.
  • Helps prevent blemishes, which give you clearer skin.
  • Increases collagen production.
  • Contains flavonoids which protect cells from free radical damage.

This mask is made from pure cocoa so do not go out and melt a Hershey bar and slap it on your face, that will not give you good results.
What you need to to make this mask is 2 tbsp of pure cocoa and 2 tbsp of plain yogurt. You can add a splash of milk for a thinner consistency. I used Greek yogurt in my mask but I would suggest using regular plain yogurt so that the mask isn’t too thick. You can also use cream instead of yogurt to mix with the cocoa but I prefer yogurt. CYMERA_20140320_094801
Then you wash your face with your cleanser of choice, pat dry and then apply the mask. You can apply the mask to your face with a small fan brush or any other way that you normally apply your masks, but I would suggest not using your fingers without gloves because it can get very messy.
Leave it on for 10 – 15 mins (I left mine on for longer because I forgot to take pictures at first). The great thing about this mask is if you get hungry, it’s totally edible! The mask will start to crumble off as it starts to dry, especially with a thinner application. I have noticed that this makes it easier to take off. In my pictures I have a very thick application, but I did this only because I had to keep it moist for my pictures. Once the time is up remove the mask with a warm water and a cloth, pat dry and then apply your moisturizer of choice.
Right away you will notice that your skin has a beautiful and youthful glow!

I hope that you have enjoyed my blog and please try this mask and let me know what you think! Did it help? Did you notice a glow? Did you eat it afterwards? I would love to hear your thoughts. I have been so busy lately so I haven’t been able to blog as much as I would like but I will definitely have more up this weekend so stay tuned!
Until next time – Amy

Playing with Polish (Nail Art) + 100 Followers!

Welcome back to another edition of Amy a Gives It a Ago, Playing With Polish. First things first, I want to say that I am so happy that I have reached 100 FOLLOWERS. I know it isn’t as high of a number as a lot of the bloggers on WordPress, but I think it’s a great achievement I have only been blogging for less than a month.

It has been a few days since my last blog so I decided that I would force myself to take the time to upload a few pics of the nail designs I have done over the past week. I have been asked to do nail art at a tweenagers birthday party, so I put together a few nail art ideas for the big day. Take a look and please tell me what you think.

For this first design I made a gradient effect with a light minty green colour called Green With Envy by Maybelline and AMAZON...AMAZOFF by OPI. It looks really cool in person. I took these pictures on my iPad so they aren't the best quality.

For my next design I did a bright multicolored ombré design as the base. I placed striping tape strategically over the nail to make the design that I wanted. I then painted over the nail with black polish and removed it a few seconds later. I think this is a cool design and perfect for young girls.

This was a really easy nail design to do. I used a white shimmery polish as the base and I diagonally sponged on a sparkley black polish called A-NISE TREAT from the OPI Gumdrop collection.

For these looks I took a small dotting tool and dotted my heart out in a diagonal pattern using different colours.

In the next picture I added a few flowers. You might not agree but I feel that they could even pass for starfish, which give the nail a beachy theme.

Well thats all the designs I have for the birthday party so far. If anyone has any good nail design ideas that would be suitable for 11 year old girls and can be done rather quickly, please let me know. Thank you for checking out Amy Gives it a Go and come back soon!

Playing With Polish

CYMERA_20140306_100646

Hey there beautiful people! I have a couple hours before class so I thought I would share a couple photos of the nail design I just finished. It is super easy, so anyone that would like to try a nail design but you dont have much time or experience, this look is perfect for you.

The colours that I used are LOREAL-Royally Yours (light blue) and ESSIE-Go Overboard (darker blue).
I painted my nails with 2 coats of Royally Yours and let them dry. If you do not have much time, you can apply a fast dry top coat like Seche Vite to speed up the process. Then I cut 4 pieces of nail tape for each nail and placed them in the design shown. I then applyed Go Overboard over the full nail. You need to remove the tape carefully and soon after you apply polish. If you take too long to remove the tape, it can cause the paint to lift as well. After the tape is removed, apply a top coat, do any necessary clean up and voila! You’re done. It is so simple and cute.

Thanks for checking out my blog and I will see you next time! Don’t forget to follow me if you haven’t already. Xoxo – Amy
